CAPSTONE PROJECT

A three-month project on Hong Kong's Self Definition

About Hong Kong

Ever-changing, dynamic, confusing, but all the while, exciting. Hong Kong is a kaleidoscope, a city that evolves in all directions and contexts: a tiny movement changes the image and producing a whole new pattern. A whole new world. It is between the Victorian architecture and the Chinese architecture, the restricted political overlook and the free capitalist market, the hustle of a metropolitan city and the abundance of mountains occupying this land that define Hong Kong.

"What will you study if you are given three years to study on a single topic?"

Even I spent fifteen years of my life in Hong Kong, I still struggle to explain the personality of Hong Kong to others. The answer to that question is readily prepared in my subconscious as the opportunity arises in my Minor in Writing Capstone Course, a final cadence to the program. In this project, I am looking into how Hong Kong defines itself in different historical touch points. This project is both a research driven understanding and a personal exploration on how I would want to rejoin the community one day.

With that, I would like to invite you to my capstone project site and hope that through the project, you also create a version of Hong Kong that most resonates with you.
